Polskie Dokumenty Dyplomatyczne 1934

This 21 th volume in the series Polish Diplomatic Documents contains 348 documents on Polish foreign policy in 1934. Particular attention is paid to Polish-German relations, especially the signing of a declaration of non-violence, which was one of the most important legal acts concluded by the diplomacy of the Second Republic of Poland. Many documents in the volume are devoted to the visit paid to Moscow by Minister Józef Beck, the only head of Polish diplomacy to travel to the Soviet Union throughout the interwar period.

A large part of the published material illustrates the activities of Polish diplomacy in the League of Nations, especially Beck’s September declaration on minority issues. The documents outlining the situation in the Free City of Danzig, which impacted on Poland’s relations with both Germany and the League of Nations, are an interesting supplement to the publication.

The documents published in the volume come from the Central Archives of Modern Records  in Warsaw, the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum in London, the Józef Piłsudski Institute of America, and the Hoover Institution (available on microfilm from the Central Archives of Modern Records).

The volume also includes a name index and an extended subject index, with the preface providing information about the structure and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The documents are published in chronological order.
